RACHEL6 ROCHESTER (Sarah5 Massey, James4 Massey, Nicholas3 Massey, Nicholas2 Massey, John1 Massey) was born in 1741 in Virginia. She died in 1835 in North Carolina. She married JOHN SEALS. He was born before 1744. He died in Oct 1777 in North Carolina.

 

John Seals and Rachel Rochester had the following children:

 

i.        FRANCIS7 SEALS was born in 1749 in Virginia. He died in Sep 1792 in Cabarrus Co, NC (Coldwater Baptist Church Cem). He married SION SIGNE SINTHA OLSEN. She was born about 1755 in Norway. She died between 1830-1849 in Washington Co, IN.

 

Notes for Francis Seals:

 

** Francis Seal - served as a private in the North Carolina Light Dragoons, Continental Line. He was paid 4 pounds on 25 Jan 1777 for "riding express". He was

 

paid 116 pounds, 27 shillings for 17 months service that included the entire year 1777.

He received a land grant of 182 acres after the war.

 

"Abstract Of The Army Accounts Of The North Carolina Line - settled by the commissioners at Halifax from the 1st September, 1784, to the 1st Feby, 1785 and at Warrenton in the year 1786, designating by whom the claims were receipted for respectively." Francis SEALS' number is 2756, and received by Philip FISHBURN.

 

27 Nov 1789, Francis SEALS was granted a land warrant of 182 acres for serving in the Revolutionary War. From the transcript of the Cabarrus County, North Carolina Court Minutes 1793-1797 by Betty J. CAMIN. There were no DAR records for Francis SEALS although his name appears on the Roster of Soldiers From North Carolina in the American Revolution. On page 306 of this book, Francis SEALS, Private was granted a land warrant of 182 acres for serving 24 months. The date of the warrant was Nov 27, 1789 and apparently the Officer was Caleb FIFER, Esqr.

 

1793-1797, A transcript of the Cabarrus County, North Carolina Court Minutes 1793-1797 by Betty J. CAMIN mentions the orphan children of Francis SEALS. This transcript reads as written by Beatrice: "Pg. 25: The Court then proceed to Appoint Eli CORZINE guardian to Mary SEALS, Samuel SEALS, William SEALS, John SEALS, and Elizabeth SEALS, Orphan Children of Francis SEALS deceased and ordered by the Court to [give] Bond & Security in the Sum of two hundred pounds for each child, who produced Alexander FORGUESON [sic] for his Security. Pg. 26: The Grand Jury presents to the Care of this Court the orphan children of Michel LEWIS deceased & the orphans of Francis SEALS deceased. Pg. 29: [Ordered] by the Court that Elizabeth SEALS an orphan child of Francis SEALS deceased aged Eleven years be bound an Apprentice to James HUIE to the Weaver Trade for and during the term of Seven years and the said master obliges himself to pay unto the Said orphan what the law directs at the expiration of the Said Term. Pg. 61: [Ordered] by the Court that Elizabeth SEALS an orphan child of Francis SEALS deceased be rebound to Benjamin VIOLES [sic] [until] she attains the age of eighteen years being now twelve years and a half of age, the Said Master obliges himself to pay unto the Said orphan what the Law directs. The said orphan was formally [sic] bound to James HUIE, which came into court and relinquishes his Right of Said orphan to the Said VIOLES [sic]."

 

ii.       JOHN BERNARD SEALS was born in 1763 in Virginia. He died in 1821. He married MARY ANN VESSEL. She was born in 1763. She died in 1821.
